'weekend notes' review

Thanks for the review Melody.

Thanks to everybody who contributed to the half light market on saturday evening, and throughout the year for that matter, we hope u had fun! :) Thanks to all the folk who had a stall, played an instrument, painted a picture, those who entertained us with their juggling clubs, fire sticks, hoola hoops and puppetry and finally those who bought something, the people. All of these combined, go a long way in helping establish the Charles St Artists Market as one of the most diverse, exciting, feel good markets in Melbourne. Lets do it again next year!!

Enjoy your holidays everybody and we will see you again bigger and better in 2012. Next market is January 29th!

Next Market: September 25th

a thank you note

A big thanks to all the people at the market yesterday for another fun, energetic, unique, good times vibe as always! It is our last market for a few months as we all seem to have hibernating tendencies here in Melbourne over winter but don’t despair, we will be back bigger and stronger as spring and summer approaches. A shout out to Bryan and Taj from the awol crew who collaborated on a wicked live piece, all the musicians, you guys were amazing, to all the the new stall holders, it was lovely meeting you all, the returning stall holders, thanks for the continued support and faith and to all the punters who make our market what it is. Lots of the love the charles st crew, george, nic, matt + friends, you know who you are xx

Art Lives in Brunswick Lives – REVIEW

Those Sweet Charles St. Artists,

Lorraine & I (that sounds a bit bloody royal, doesn’t it !) have just returned from our first tour, of the first class showing, of genuine, intriguing, and sometimes “GHASTLY!” work by Brunswick’s newest immigrant group - the young & talented.

Out back of the Sporting Club Hotel and just across from some Serious Coffee, we have watched new talent give unrestrained expression to their artistic passions. This is the kind of image boost that Barkly Square could benefit from.

Sure there were a couple of pieces I might not hang in my loungeroom, but it’s good to have the edge of the envelope stretched now and again, and I’ve ordered a particular T-Shirt, while my companion acquired an eccentric little piece of post-mod “digital” jewelery. My only disappointment was in not having more cash to splash, especially given the amount of modest “new market” pricing.

Even more engaging was the easy willingness of these “alternative” characters to embrace dialogue (incl. stencil technicalities) with a couple of oldies, alongside an extensive opportunity for kids to try their hands at some arty activity.

Since it’s only available last Sunday of the Month, I’ve already written May 29th into the diary (with a civilized start at midday).

Respects, Kenneth & Lorraine

We will be back in May!!

Ok so after much discussion we have decided to take a break this month and wish everybody a HAPPY EASTER. It gives us all an extra month to get creative and come back fresh on May 29th. We are taking bookings through out so for any interested stall holders, performers or artists on the day please feel free to contact us at charlesstart@hotmail.com!!
